Just some highlights: We left Moshi, Tanzania on a loooong bus ride to Mombasa, where our super nice 5-star hotel had sent a van to get us. You know the rest – tropical blue waters, the most amazing resort with … Continue reading

Hiking Mt. Kilimanjaro
Mt. Kilimanjaro (Tanzania) We really we not sure we could do this mountain. Not because its hard (the slope would be over 30-degrees), or because its cold (temperature around -20F), but because we were expected to ascend almost 7,000’ … Continue reading

We returned to Nairobi for a night (again at the awesome and highly recommended Sankara Hotel) on our way to Tsavo. It was a lot of driving, and our driver Sam was a champion. Roads are rough, traffic can be … Continue reading

Kenya. Masai Mara
Off to the Mara! This is my favorite park in Kenya. It has grasslands that seem to go on forever, allowing for 360-degrees of great views. Not to mention lions, cheetahs, hyenas, and tons of bovine herds. All full after … Continue reading

Kenya. Hiking Mt. Kenya (16,355′) – The approach and lowlands
We decided we would hike Mt. Kenya, partially per advice of a friend (same friend who recommended El Karama, thanks Sarah Lee!), and partly because I thought it would be a great altitude warm up for Kilimanjaro. My mom has … Continue reading

Kenya. Time at El Karama Ranch
Nairobi to El Karama Ranch (Oct 21-26th, 2010) We arrived late evening on Thursday Oct 21st to Nairobi. Amidst the chaos in the airport and Visa line, we actually got our bags and met our driver with plenty of time to spare. … Continue reading

Hiking Mt. Baldy (San Ysidro)
Mt. Baldy is also know as San Ysidro Peak, which stands at 11,000’. It’s a good hike, but don’t start late in the day like we did. It’s a long way down too.
